Vélotour : Frankenstein in english
Frankenstein, a Genevan Creature
The summer of 1816 is grim. An 18-year-old English tourist has a nightmare by the lake. She invents science fiction. Frankenstein is born… What a horror!
The Napoleonic Wars finally come to an end. A group of five idle young British tourists come to Geneva. The summer of 1816 is rotten on the shores of Lake Geneva; a smell of sulfur lingers in the air. Confined to their villa in Cologny, these lovers of black poetry and gothic novels read ghost stories. The challenge is launched; who among them will write the scariest story? During the stormy night that follows, Mary Shelley, 18, has a nightmare… By then conceiving the character of Dr. Frankenstein, a mad scientist from a good Genevan family who artificially brings a deformed being to life, she truly creates a new genre, science fiction. But what a horror! The famous monster strangles a child in Plainpalais!
